This stand-alone program addresses the basics of recognizing and initial response to hazardous materials incidents in a healthcare setting, including directed self-decon. Certificate of Completion awarded to each student who successfully takes the course.
Audience
All healthcare workers who may encounter a hazardous materials incident or self-presenting contaminated victims.
Outcomes for Organization
A workforce where front line employees can act appropriately when confronted with a hazardous materials incident. This can help protect the facility and its occupants, and may prevent a small (incidental) spill from becoming a major emergency.
Outcomes for Students
Enables the students to protect themselves and others by recognizing the existence of a hazmat emergency situation, responding safely, isolating the scene and denying entry, and being able to conduct the appropriate notifications, as well as performing directed self-decontamination where appropriate.
Regulatory and Compliance Requirements
This course meets OSHA’s requirements for meeting their Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standards at the Awareness level.
