The National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM), working with a cooperative agreement from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), has rolled out a comprehensive Pipeline Emergencies training package at its Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA.
The package was developed by a team of respected emergency response and industry experts, including well-known hazardous materials response consultants (and EFG technical committee members) Mike Hildebrand and Greg Noll; Michael Callan, an award-winning fire trainer and hazardous materials specialist (and another EFG technical committee member); and Emergency Film Group, the leading provider of media-based training products to the emergency responder community. Included in the package is a text written by Hildebrand & Noll in 'E-book' format that incorporates videos produced by Emergency Film Group. This unique format provides the learner with an interactive experience to provide a broad representation of pipeline operations and tactical response options. Along with an instructor’s guide, the curriculum provides detailed lesson plans and a training matrix that describes how the program is used at the awareness, operations, and technical levels. The modules can be completely customized to adapt to any classroom situation.
What trainers need
"NASFM is proud to offer not just the textbook but also a trainer's package," aid Jerry Rosendahl, President of NASFM and Minnesota's State Fire Marshal during his remarks at the organization's Annual Meeting. "Having the information out there is great but actually giving trainers what they need to get it to America's first responders -- well that's even better."
The Pipeline Emergencies curriculum is available free of charge to the fire service through NASFM, and can also be used by pipeline industry operators to help fulfill federal guidelines requiring outreach and training of first responders in specific distribution areas.
